The wind is whispering in Woody Creek... Change is in the air
It's 1958 and Woody Creek is being dragged - kicking and screaming - into the swinging sixties.
Cara and Georgie are now young women but, raised separately, they have never met. They've both inherited their mother's hands, but that's where their similarity ends.
Despite a teenage mistake looming over Cara's future, she still believes in the white wedding and happily ever after myth. Georgie, however, has seen enough of marriage and motherhood, and plans to live her life independent of a man.
But once the sisters are drawn into each other's lives, long-buried secrets are bound to be unearthed, the dramatic consequences of which no-one could have predicted...
"The texture of the writing as well as the mind-boggling plots give her books a fatally addictive attraction" Saturday Age
Fans of Rosalie Ham's The Dressmaker will love Joy Dettman.
Wind in the Wires A Woody Creek Novel 4 edition by Joy Dettman Literature Fiction eBooks
In Wind in the Wires Joy Dettman takes things into a direction that has left me so disappointed... I won't give it away but once you read it you will know EXACTLY what I am talking about.I feel things have stalled in this chapter and there is a lot of going over things from the previous stories. I don't know if this is a problem if you have had large gaps between your reading however I have read these books back to back and so it is just really adding to the length without purpose.
I am also getting annoyed with how the story just seems to recycle from the first book onto different characters. I feel that Sissy is basically Margot and Jenny is Georgie/ Cara in so many ways.
The fact that everybody 'howels' is wearing thin, can't some characters just sob, sniffle, cry, break down.... something (I am not a writer so thats just what I can come up with)
Also it seems to be that everytime the phone rings or someone knocks on a door it takes like two paragraphs to reveal who was behind it or on the other end "Knew it was him, didn't want it to be him, knew it was XXX but picked up the phone anyway and it was YYY." This continually happens and whatever the effect it just makes the character seem idiotic.
I will read no 5 and I hope to see a turn around....

Wind in the Wires A Woody Creek Novel 4 edition by Joy Dettman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This novel is a must read if one has read the three before; a wonderful saga. I hope there is more to follow. Like the previous one's it keeps you wanting more and the characters have by now become endearing to you. A fabulous author, only sorry took me so long to find one of her novels....Thank You Joy Dettman, I am a fan for life.
I went to a luncheon where Joy was the guest speaker and I was surrounded by many avid readers of her works and they were full of her praise .I have now read 5 of her books and I now understand their passion for her work.the Woody creek series read in order is a brilliant series and well worth the read. Her characters just seem to appear and meld together in a sum what tangled web. Mallawindt was great also
"Wind in the Wires" is true to Dettmans previous style and an easy read, like a conversation.
However the author stretches probability and believability with the recurrence of coincidence and and contrivance much like Hardy's "Tess of the Durbervilles". I think you could see this coming in the previous book, but it is certainly more prominent in this volume.
Just a little unbelieveable. Read it if you a fan of the series and dying to know what happens.
Wonderfully intense reading with down to earth characters. Can't wait for the next one.
I was a little disappointed in this book. Like so many series. most of these four books could have been condensed into two. Joy Dettman is a greatwriter, but wasted so much time going over past history that the story lost some momentum. I hope the next book in this series spends more time on new and not so much on the old history. The plot becomes increasingly unbelievable and incredible, but Joy makes it an entertaining read.
Brilliant.......I have read all of Joy Dettmans books and find her to be a wonderful author who takes the reader on a descriptive, interesting and spell binding journey. I would suggest that you purchase these books from the first as this will give you an excellent understanding of the characters. However she does give a wonderful 'lead'in with excellent overview if you have not read the previous books.
By now I am hooked. Not as good as the first couple of books in the series, but I now need to read them all.
